User Guides & Knowledge Base

Everything you need to post, browse, inquire, and advertise on Barnyard Listing.

What is Barnyard Listing?

Barnyard Listing is a nationwide advertising platform for rural America — livestock, farm equipment, hay & feed, property, services, and more. It connects buyers and sellers but is not a party to any transaction. You are solely responsible for your listings and any sale you conduct.

Posting a Listing

Anyone with a free account can post a listing. New listings go into a moderation queue and go live once an admin approves them.

Step-by-step

1. Sign in and click Post Listing (the orange button in the navbar).

2. Choose a category (Livestock, Farm Equipment, etc.) and, if prompted, a subcategory.

3. Enter the details — title, description, price, price type, condition, and location (city & state are required).

4. Upload photos. The first image becomes the cover. You can add up to 20.

5. Add specifications (Breed, Year, Make, Model, Acres, etc.) to help buyers find your listing.

6. Review your contact info. Your verified account email and profile phone are shown automatically — buyers always reach you. Set your phone in your Dashboard profile.

7. Agree to the terms and click Post Listing.

After you post

Your listing is Pending review. You'll get an email once it's approved and live. Approved listings are also auto-shared to the Barnyard Listing Facebook page.

Managing Your Contact Profile

Your account email and profile phone appear on every listing you post. Keeping them current means buyers can always reach you.

How to update your phone

1. Go to your Dashboard and open the Profile tab.

2. Enter your contact phone and click Save Phone.

3. The new phone appears on all future listings and on existing listings the next time they're viewed.

Why you can't type a different phone per listing

Contact info is tied to your account to protect everyone — it prevents anyone from listing someone else's phone number. If you need a different number, update it in your profile.

Managing Your Listings

The Dashboard ("Ranch Office") is your control center. It shows your active listings, total views, and inquiries.

What you can do

Edit a listing — click the Edit button to update details, photos, specs, or location.

Change status — mark a listing Active, Sold, Pending, or Expired using the dropdown.

Delete a listing — permanently remove it (with confirmation).

View inquiries — see messages from interested buyers and mark them Read or Replied.

Rejected listings

If a listing is rejected, the reason is shown in your dashboard. Edit the listing to fix the issue and it will be re-reviewed.

Browsing & Searching

You don't need an account to browse.

Find what you need

Mega menu — hover or tap Browse Listings in the navbar to jump straight to a category.

Search bar — on the homepage, search by keyword or filter by state.

Filters — on the browse page, narrow results by category, subcategory, price, condition, and dynamic specs (Breed, Year, etc.).

Listing detail — click any card to see full photos, specs, description, and the seller's contact info.

Favorites

Tap the heart on a listing card to save it. Favorites are stored on your device for quick access later.

Contacting a Seller

Found something you like? Reach out directly from the listing page.

How to inquire

1. Open a listing and click Message Owner.

2. Fill in your name, email or phone, and your message.

3. The seller receives your message in their Dashboard and by email.

4. You can also use the tap-to-call phone button on mobile if the seller provided a phone.

Stay safe

Always review our Safety Tips before meeting a seller or sending payment. Barnyard Listing is not involved in the transaction and cannot mediate disputes.

Safety & Best Practices

General guidelines

Meet in public, daylight, ideally at a bank or police station for high-value items.

Verify before you pay — inspect livestock, equipment, and goods in person.

Use traceable payment and be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true.

Keep communication on-platform where possible — inquiries through the site create a record.

Report a problem

If you encounter a suspicious listing or fraudulent behavior, use the Contact page to notify our team. We can unpublish listings pending review at any time.
